Better than LOTR? What do you think?

the series written by Frank Herbert was totally awesome. when it first came out on the big screen in 1980, i was totally unaware of the extent of his work. the world he created (like the world created by Tolkien in LOTR) was so extensive it could have filled an entire encyclopedia. big enough for his son, Brian to write the prequels - House Atreides, House Harkonnen, House Corrino, and The Butlerian Jihad. I love the way everything twists around so there is always a suprise at the end of every book. Dune has so many deeper issues than LOTR - religious, government, social. it makes you think about a world that could be.

I have read and may even still have all these titles.
    His kid Brian, can't write.
Frank was like a 1950's Dostoyevsky. What's really interesting is that you can't "date" his works.
Unlike Heinlein whose work is so datable it marrs his work there isn't anything about Herbert that dates him.
